Is IDVD 7 compatible with Mountain Lion?

Apparently I need to get a disc with the older IDVD 7 on it to run on my MacBook Pro retina with Mountain Lion OSX 8.2.

Will it work?

Thanks for the help

iMovie '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

After spending hours driven nuts trying to get iDVD 7 to work on my MacPro - it doesn't display themes properly, nor do I have access to the older ones...which, apparently, may or may not work anyway, judging from the way "Soft Frame" looks - all black.

I am SO glad I kept my MDD G4, and have migrated the video files there to hopefully continue and conclude this project as easily as I did in the old days. I will now treasure my older machines, and I have 2 or 3 of them.

Yes, BUT:

But even though you can still buy iLife 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:

Poster jhb21939 posted this in another thread:

“when I attempted to load iDVD into a new iMac. A notice came up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March this year (2012).

I contacted the Apple support team and eventually, I was told that the Licence had been withdrawn and could no longer be used.”

In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.

In response, Old Toad posted this solution:

“You can still use it one all of your Macs. If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer. After you're done reset the time back to the correct time.” He added this comment:

“It began after iDVD and iWeb were discontued and they were dropped from the Apple Store. All I can think of is the certificate was set to expire after a certain time period after the intitial iLife disc was released.

I've been able to use the installer even without setting back the date. I just clicked on the Continue button and it would work as expected. For some it would not continue unless the date was set back.”

The latest anorexic iMacs just announced do not even include a CD drive! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of DVDs - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.

Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

YES! After much fuss, I managed to make iDVD work with MOUNTAIN LION (10.8.3). I don't have iLife '11 and people tell me that iDVD is included but I am skeptical because Apple doesn't list it as being included although Amazon does. Be that as it may...

1. I used iLife '09 which I bought before all this new operating system PPC/Intel nonsense. I installed iDVD only. Do not open it (it won't work anyway because the platform isn't compatible).

2. Go to the Internet and type in "iDVD Download."

3. You have to find updates on the Internet. Look for iDVD 7.04. Download and install it. Don't open anything.

4. You need one more update. Look for iDVD 7.1.2. Download and install it. After the install OPEN IT. It works.

I am really disappointed with Apple for discontinuing iDVD. The other DVD creators out there are sorely lacking in flexibility and quality. Steve Jobs would not have stopped iDVD... I just know it. I have been an Apple enthusiast ever since the company was born. It's really sad because without his leadership and vision, the cracks in Apple's products and quality are beginning to show. It's really sad.

If you need to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.

Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

I just finished the procedure you outlined in your 4 step process ...... bottom line..... worked like a charm!🙂

My only difference from yours was that I used ilife '08 in which I installed only the idvd portion of the package.

AWESOME!!! ..... Thanks to you and all the others for the great information.

Cheers!

I am currently transitioning from a 2007 Mini to a brand-new one. I had been maintaining multiple OS X boot volumes (Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Lion) and have been dragging a load of baggage.

And I had that iDVD issue, too.

I did a drag-copy of iDVD, and then did a search of my old boot volumes for templates, which I also relocated. It wasn't an app that I had ever used, but do finally have a reason to do a project or two.

The next time I connected to the app store, it had an upgrade/patch ready for iDVD.

Was that upgrade patch for the themes or just a newer version of the application. I've tried that for themes with no success in the past.

It worked for me and the themes were proposed in Software Upgrades, but only once the computer had been restarted.

Thanks for the great tips!
