iTunes won't open even after reinstall

Since October 1, 2012 when I clicked on desktop icon to open/launch iTunes it will not. I did nothing different, nothing has changed or been modified on my computer.

I continue to receive basic error box "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"...I have sent error reports (many). I also click on provided link to see technical reasons "Error signature AppName:itunes.exe | AppVer 10 7.0.21 | ModName:unknown | ModVer: 0.0.0.0 | Offset 0a0c1040 | Clicking on Technical Info: a mass of information but it states that this following file is incl in report: C:\DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS`1\Temp\7bd1_appcompat.txt. I clicked on the link that is provided in the pop up box here that led me to this

  • I have had iTunes on my pc desktop windows xp for several years with no issues like this.
  • All security/firewall/virus protection etc is allowing itunes
  • I am admin
  • I have plenty of space for it on my computer (esp since I have had it all this time with no issues)
  • I have reinstalled and clicked "repair"
  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice
  • I have clicked on the link for itunes in my start\all programs location
  • I have searched this support community and can not find a converstaion that has to do with no specific error box.

PLEASE HELP!!

I am so frustrated and about to just give up and deal with the fact I won't have iTunes again

Doublechecking something:

ModName:unknown | ModVer: 0.0.0.0

Is your QuickTime Player also currently failing to launch?

b noir,

I could hug you it works!! I have always had Quick Time but hadn't needed it so I never attempted to launch it. It started to install after I clicked it. Weird but it worked. So thank you, thank you, thank you!🙂😍

Now if I might impose...I have an other issue:

Since I have uninstalled and reinstalled when iTunes came up of course it was not my iTunes it was as if I have never had one before. I see the link "Find MP3 and AAC files in my home folder" I have clicked on it and it is finding some. I know I have all my Music, TV shows, Movies, Apps, in my computer but...

Questions:😕

  • How can I be sure this link/option will find everying I had before ?
  • And what about Apps, there are not showing up now but I have them on phone & "purchases in itunes store so do I need them in my library?
  • Are my playlists I created gone now?
  • Should I also use the "File"|"Add File/Folder to Library"?
  • Should I connect my iPhone 4S ios 5.1.1 to get all (waiting to update after bugs are fixed)

again ty ty ty - I am soo happy to see iTunes on my computer again!!

Hi Kacey,

I suspect that somewhere in all of this your iTunes library database got removed. Here is my usual approach...

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder (inside your main iTunes folder) should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.

User uploaded file

See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

When you get it all working make a backup!

If I've misunderstood the situation please provide more details and I will do my best to help.
