Question: Why can't I listen to my Podcasts while in Airplane mode?

I noticed that podcasts now have a new app just for podcasts. So far so good. But I loaded up 12 hours worth of them for a plane trip and none of them would play. I guess they now need a network connection. This is not an improvement. Unless I have missed something, this is a big negative feature.

OK< I think I got it figured out. What happened is that I was monkeying with the Settings and hit "subscribe" while in Airplane mode. This wiped out about 12 hours worth of podcasts which could not be restrored until I got back on the network.

Thanks for the feedback!

Well, I still have this problem. The iPhone says I've downloaded my podcasts but they are unavailable as soon as I turn airplane mode on. I wish apple would allow me the option of using the old iTunes. Nice and simple, did everything I needed, and it just worked. I'm getting tired of the 'improvements'. If I wanted to have to do a few hours of research every time I needed to use what should be a basic feature (like how to include reminders into calendar -oh wait, you can't) I would buy windows systems.
