so I got givin a iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G and when I tried downloading an app it told me it needed to have ios4 on it. So I went into setting then general and it does not have software update anywhere. Then I connected it to iTunes and iTunes told me my phone was up to date when obviously it's not. I need help what can I do?

You have an iPhone 3G, and the last iOS available is 4.2.1, which is end of the line for that model. It's hardware can't support iOS version beyond that. Your ONLY option is to ugrade your phone to a newer model.
Ok well the last app I tried to download said I had to have iOS4 so what do I do to at least get ios4?

Go to your settings>general>about>software version......that will tell you your currently software version:)

Have connected iTunes but where is "Update."? Here is no any option (Or some thing like update).Now what to do ?

The update option is on the summary page of your device in iTunes
