I am guessing this wasn't done through apple. Apple will give you a 10% discount when you trade-in an iPod (iPod shuffle does not count). Your friend may have used a 3rd party trade-in program. I would ask him who he used.
He said take it to apple but how much will be 10%if that's the case
It would cost $270 or $360 depending on which one.
