Dec 31, 2012 12:29 PM in response to Morar95by mjburnett663,MY DAD HAS HAD HIS IPHONE 5 FOR 13 DAYS. HIS WIFI GREYED OUT AND COULDNT GET IT TO WORK. HE CALLED APPLE TODAY AND WAS ON THE PHONE FOR 3 HOURS UNTIL SOMEONE TOLD HIM THEY COULD FIX THE PROBLEM IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES BUT HAD TO PAY $200. THATS HOW MUCH HE PAYED FOR THE PHONE!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME APPLE!?!?!?!?!?! THEN THEY TOLD MY DAD HE COULDNT RETURN THE PHONE TO THE STORE BECUASE THE SOFTWARE IS CORRUPT AND THEY WONT TAKE IT BACK. DO NOT BUY THE IPHONE 5 OR ANY OTHER APPLE PRODUCTS IF YOU KNOW WHATS GOOD FOR YOU. BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO ROYALLY SCREW YOU IN YOUR BUTTHOLE AND MAKE YOU SPEND REATRDED AMOUNTS OF MONEY. WHO DOES THIS TO PEOPLE????!!!!! APPLE WAS NO HELP WHATSOEVER IN FIXING MY FATHERS IPHONE 5. THE IOS6 UPDATE IS WHAT BROKE IS HIS PHONE. HE LITERALLY HAS HAD THE PHONE FOR 2 WEEKS AND DOWNLOADED ONE APPLICATION. THE FLASHLIGHT APP. APPLE SAT THERE AND BLAMED MY DAD FOR BREAKING THE PHONE. HE LITERALLY DID NOTHING TO THE PHONE. THE PEOPLE AT THE STORE TOLD MY DAD HE HAD A FREE 90 DAY TECH SUPPORT. APPLE SAID THE STORE LIED TO HIM. WHAT!?!?!?!?! WHY WOULD THR STORE LIE!?!?!? THIS IS THEE BIGGEST LOAD OF BULLCRAP I HAVE EVER WITNESSED IN MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE OF LIFE. SO, IF YOU WANT AN IPHONE 5....PAY $200 FOR IT, WAIT A FEW WEEKS FOR IT TO BREAK, THEN PAY ANOTHER $200 TO GET IT FIXED ITS THAT SIMPLE!!! A NEW IPHONE 5 FOR $400!!!!! OH BUT YOU HAVE TO SPEND THE ENTIRE DAY TALKING TO 5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE ON THE PHONE FROM APPLE. ALL WHO CANNOT HELP YOU UNTIL YOU GET TO THE 5TH PERSON AND THEY TELL YOU THEY CAN SIMPLY PUSH A COUPLE BUTTONS WHICH TAKES ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND THE PHONE IS FIXED!!!! AMAZZZZZIIIINNNGGGG ISNT IT!?!?!? I HOPE YOU ALL UNDERSTAND MY FRUSTRATION. THANKS APPLE FOR THE GREAT SERVICE!

Dec 31, 2012 2:20 PM in response to Morar95by gjlsan,I have the same problem, i tried out almost everything on this post, the freezer (it works for about 4 hours and try it again and works for another 4 hours), i tried running out the battery and doesn't work, i tried the network reseting and doesn't work also. But the problem is not only the wifi greyed out and the battery running out faster, some of my applications does not work also:
mega run
cut the rope
chess free
diamond dash
logos quiz
101 games
dot line
youversion (bible)
I bought my iphone in an AT&T store.

Dec 31, 2012 2:23 PM in response to gjlsanby KiltedTim,If putting it in the freezer fixes it for a time, then it is a PHYSICAL FAILURE in the phone. There is no magic software fix that's going to correct it.
Make an appointment at the genius bar and get the phone replaced or buy a new one before it fails entirely.

Jan 2, 2013 8:46 AM in response to Morar95by Apple is done,I went to the Apple Store last night and they took a look at it and ended up giving me a new (refurb) phone. Kudos to Apple on this, I am now back in their corner.
For your info the phone was a 4S that was bought 11/2011. My wifi and bluetooth stopped working after updating to IOS 6 back in September.
Make an appointment and go to a genius bar and see what they say, be polite but firm and sync/backup your phone before you go, barring that I don't know what to tell people.

Jan 2, 2013 11:46 AM in response to Morar95by Vappleuser,This is an apple trick to have you buy a new iphone or pay for a new phone.I have read articles where they build bugs into their new updates and stop certain hardware pieces from working.I have stopped updating any apple product I buy due to these challenges.I have moved to android samsung phones. They are much robust and reliable than iPhone.Add do this the worst customer service from apple for any issues.
ONLY SOLUTION IS BUYING A NEW PHONE..Move to samsung and Android

Or just do the following:
- Go to settings
- Turn off blue tooth
- Go into general settings - Mobile/cellular data
- Turn off mobile/cellular data and 3G
- Go back to general settings and go to reset menu
- Reset network settings
- After it reboots - Do a soft reboot (press and hold home and power button for 10 seconds)
After reloads go to settings and check if your wifi has 'ungreyed' itself! Worked for me!!!

Jan 8, 2013 7:22 AM in response to Morar95by djescobar973,My Wi-Fi died about a week ago... I've done all the steps I've come across and still nothing. The freezer trick worked for about a day or so but it has greyed out since. I took it to an Apple Store last night 1/7/13 and was immediatley told it would cost 199 to replace. I've had this phone for 1 yr and 1 month. It's sad to see that we are forced to replace these at our own cost when obviously there is a problem with io6. I didn't like how the store handled this at all but what can I do.. I'm just one upset user out of millions I suppose. I'll be moving on from Apple after this.

Jan 8, 2013 7:41 AM in response to djescobar973by KiltedTim,If putting it in the freezer fixed it, it's a hardware fault. A poor/broken connection somewhere inside the phone. It's simple physics. You can not fix a software problem by altering the temperature of the device.
Good luck with whatever you get next. I don't know of any manufacturer that is willing to throw away money on a device whose warranty has expired.
