Q: iOS 6.0.1 WiFi Still Greyed Out

My iPhone's WiFi was working great on iOS 6 when it first came out, no problems whatsoever, until last week it failed over night without me knowing. The WiFi option was still available but unable to connect to my home network and when I rebooted the phone, the WiFI was greyed out. It has not been working since.

I waited for iOS 6.0.1 to come out as I understood that this was supposed to fix the problem many users with iOS 6 have been facing with WiFi connections, but this has not worked. I do not understand why it has failed. I bought this 4S in February and have never dropped it and it has always been in a case. The WiFi was working great before I went to bed and the next morning it was no longer working.

I have reseted the network settings, restored the phone and even tried using the phone as new and this has still not fixed the problem.

I took my phone to apple today, and I asked if there is any reports about the last update which is 6.1.1. He said none, I told him that the issue started after upgrading to latest update. he said all I can do is to reset my phone to the  factory settings, also he said that the update is might be a BETA, so I asked him, apple release a BETA update to their customer??? he said yes for trial and error??? really Apple??? For trial and error??? Beta for an update, now thats good news.

Same problem here! But my IPhone 4 is over 2 years old. Will they replace it anyway?

this is what i did to resolve the problem:

    1. turn off cellular data, 3g, bluetooth

    2. go to settings and "reset network"

    3. wait until the phone reboots

    4. do a soft reboot (press home and power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds).

voila! the greyed out wifi came back alive.

It works the same way if you turn off cellular data and stick phone in freezer. I discovered this fix when I lost my phone in the snow where it sat for two hours in negative 1° temp for two hours. But as phone returns to room temperature wifi stops working again. I also no longer have blue tooth. What a POS

Ok, just about the same here, for adding up at the long list of users defeated by Apple.: A 14 month 4S, working just fine and (strangely enough) after iOS update we got the wifi grey button + bluetooth spinning disk....

To let you know: I did all the reset restore blablabla possible: no change.

However, 10 minute in the freezer, wifi and bluetooth came back alive, connect to the network just fine etc.... (meaning the chip is not "broken", probably overheat or soldering connector pbe) but of course, after 10-20 minutes, again, wifi grey button + bluetooth spinning disk....

I did it two times, works the same.

Now I'm heading to the closet Apple store (I'm in France) but without any hope. I'm so disappointed....

If it doesn't do any good, I will unscrew it, get the battery off, and will torch it with a heat gun... who knows...

Same problem. Apple confirmed that it is a hardware failure.  But in the EU you have two years guarantee. Apple only 'communicates' one.

What you (and I did) say that you're in the EU and have rights on two years guarantee. They let you fill in a form and viola.. my 15 month old iphone 4s was replaced (free).

    Niel,

many thanks for your answer, I was totally unaware of this 2 year waranty. However, my iphone is second hand, hopefully the warranty is transferable (the one year is.)

    I keep you posted

Not sure if you need a proof of purchase. Can't you get the invoice form the seller?

    Good luck,

    Niels

    Too all,

went to see the infamous Genius, he knew the problem, said that it was a hardware pbe, underground before the update, then that the update did reveal it; no way to solve that by software etc.... now it's dead, must change phone. 2 month out of 1 year warranty (he lauch out lound when I spoke about 2 year EU warranty, did not exists fof Apple in France) and very kindly propose a 199 euros repair... (basically, they switch Phone). How nice to be scr@* like this. So damned disapointed, I used to be a Beta (alpha...) on OS X about 14 years ago, I hate to see this compagny changing but it probably inevitable. (too much success).

So I don't know yet what to do, I may even try to resolder the chip with a heat gun... for now it's 3G when possible.. and no bluetooth earphone. ridiculous....isn't ?

    best,

    Saludos!

I have the same problem and I honestly dont know what to do... Now I'm travelling and I find this offensive and I'm also quite dissapointed.I rely on the wifi connection. This is a serious situation and I hope that Apple fix the problem.

My wifi has been greyed out since I updated my 4s to 6.0.1. At first, I was shocked then a friend of mine told me to drain my phone and put it in the freezer. That freezer thing worked but only for 30 minutes and it was greyed out again. I went to the Mac Center the next day and asked the people who works there if that was a software problem, and they told me that they only troubleshoot iPads and iPods. I was mad when I left the store because they have a very very very very poor quality of service. I'm gonna wait for the next update and if that update won't let my wifi work, I will return my phone immediately and change into a Samsung phone. After all, Samsung isn't far from your standing.

    TO APPLE:

Please fix this! Im getting impatient because using 3g is not fun at all.  It will be your loss, Apple. Thank you.
