Is there a way to reinstall OSX 10.6.8 without bothering other data on same HD?
My main HD is acting very odd, starting with not recognizing USB or Firewire devices and now won't start up from the HD . It starts fine fron the disk, and when I loaded the OS on another internal drive it works fine.
The data on the main HD that I have copied to the other hard drive - a random sampling - seems to be fine, though I've had to re-load non-Apple apps. In short, it seems like it's the OS itself that has gone bad, or the portion of the disk that the OS occupies. (I've done a myriad of things, such as run Drive Genius, Tech Tool Pro, re-do permissions, run Disk Repair, Defrag, etc.)
A Clean Install, as I understand it, wipes the drive. I'd rather not have to open and check each and every one of the who knows how many files that I would have to copy from the original HD to one of the other internal hard drives. Can I re-load the OS on the problem drive without destoying other data?
