Has iOS 6.0.1 fixed the previous bugs? Requesting information.

Hello Apple Users,

As most of you know, the iOS 6 update has brought many problems for 4th generation iPod Touch users including but not limited to: Appstore crashes, app crashes, Wi-Fi problems, Music problems, iMessage failure, FaceTime failure, missing apps, and more.

I have been waiting for iOS 6.0.1 to come out and address these problems.

Now the next update has finally come out, even though it seems to be targeted to fix the newer devices rather than the 4th generation iPod Touch and older.

I have now updated, but I am unsure what is possibly fixed or what is not. I did not have most of the issues that most of the other users had, so I can't say whether this update helps with those problems at all.

I am looking for what bugs may have been fixed with iOS 6.0.1 that were caused by iOS 6.0.0, so I would be able to see what bugs I would encounter if I were to upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6

I would appreciate it if everyone who has updated to iOS 6.0.1 on a 4th generation iPod Touch could post their knowledge about this update and what it fixed in this thread.

Questions to answer:

1.Are any of the problems you had when you upgraded to iOS 6 fixed after the iOS 6.0.1 update?

2.Did you discover any new problems with iOS 6.0.1 in addition to the problems of iOS 6.0.0?

3.Did you have any of the problems mentioned above or that any other iOS 6 user has encountered after upgrading straight from iOS 5 to 6.0.1?

4.What other information about the iOS 6.0.1 update can you provide?

Thank you,

Hi, I'm using iPad 3 and iPhone 4, but since most of the reported issues seem to occur on all devices running iOS 6.0.0 in general I keep you posted anyway.

1. So far at least some problems seem to be solved. FB is running again (however - might be that my problems yesterday werde caused by FB on the server side), searching for apps in AppStore on iPad does work again, but only if there is an iPad app corresponding to the search term. If there isn't switching to "iPhone apps" returns the no-results-message either, although there actually *are* results. Can't tell you something about stability right now, obviously.

2. Not yet.

3. AppStore crashes, app crashes, AppStore "blank pages" (mostly iPad, iPhone slightly better). Sometimes "erratic" battery behaviour (both devices). In most cases the issues could have been temporarily fixed through reboot of the affected device. That led me to reboot my devices once or twice in two days, before iOS 6 I did so only about oce in a week or fortnight, and this just for "maintenance reasons" without really needing to.

4. Nothing so far.

Actually my 4S is flawless after 6.0 and beyond. Except for a couple little things. Even the iPod 4th G has become quicker and smoother except for the closing apps in the background issue. That needs to be fixed, cause nobody wants apps closing without them wanting too. Lets see what happens. But nothing like you're saying I'm experiencing, try a restore without restoring from a backup. That'll fix it probably.

Hi Tommy. I did not restore it from backup. I updated my iTunes in my PC to the latest one. Then tried to upgrade my 4S. After that an error appeared in the screen in my 4S and then it rebooted. When the connect to iTunes image showed up then in the 4S' screen. I ran iTunes and attached the USB cable but it said that my device is in recovery mode. When I click OK, it said it has an error and has to restore. I used another pc this time and I clicked the Restore in iTunes to restore it to its original settings wiping everything (pictures, sms messages, apps, songs, etc.). Restore was successful (no error). My 4S is ios 6.0.1. But right there after the upgrade, problems showed up as stated above. Last night i fully charged my 4S and set wifi, bluetooth, hotspot off and then lock the screen. After 8hours in standy, battery is near 40%. I did not receive any calls/sms nor alarms were triggered and i only play 2 games in my 4S. 🙂 Thanks.

You can't downgrade your device because apple considers it hacking your device (causes the error), and their solution is just to buy an Iphone 5, thats all they fixed with the update. Personlly I wish steve jobs was still alive beacause he wanted his products to be enjoyable, and easy to use by everyone. Not programmed to only fix the newest device and leave every otherone behinde. Now all apple wants is money. It's unfortunate because iused to love apple products but ever since steve jobs is no longer a part of the company, They all seem to suck.

WHY APPLE!!!!! aple now just wants as much money as they can get, or so it seems. It's like they don'r care about us anymore.

Apple technical support just had me turn off a bunch of stuff on my iPod touch 4G to try and improve performance such as location services, notifications, diagnostics etc. They mentioned iOS 6 has 200 new features and I probably don't use them all? I really don't know what I use and what I don't? I turned most of the above features off. With iOS 5 I never had to tween things and just used the device and was happy. All this tweaking has been frustrating for me. Just want it to work and personally don't care what things are etc. I'm interested in a MacBook Pro but honestly my experience with iOS 6 has left a sour taste in my mouth. I want Apple to worry about things working correctly, not me trying to tween things because thier hardware isn't designed to run a new update with default settings. Plus, by turning things off, am I even benefiting from iOS 6?

On a positive note, at least safari didn't crash while attempting to post on this forum which was one of the issues I was having.

Also, I was pretty rough with technical support during the call and feel a little bad about that. But I've spent a lot of time fiddling with the iPod touch since updating to iOS 6 trying to figure out why performance and crashes have been so bad not to mention lost data when the initial install of iOS 6 failed.

On a bad note, still getting stutters in music and stuck keys while posting this. Tech support suggested turning off music while doing other stuff. But really! Only apps open are music and this one page in safari. I don't know?

On a positive note, I was able to post again without safari crashing. Yay.

And while I'm on a rant haha, is anybody else frustrated with the inconsistency of the home button. Sometimes I'm wondering what the heck it's doing. Doesn't respond always as expected. Sometimes it registrars double clicks as single clicks or doesn't even respond. I don't believe it's my iPod as I've had this one replaced and both perform the same way. Also my friends iPhone 4G performs the same and so do the new models at stores.

The button issue is not new to iOS 6 as it performed the same way in iOS 5 and possibly 4. Really seems like a software issue but what do I know.

To be fair ios 6 and 6.0.1 on my iPod 4th G. Gas improved a lot of things. Less stickyness is the main thing, along with wicker safari and smoother performance. In the beginning with ios 6 the App Store was a absolutely crashing after a search, that's been resolved. Now the only problem my iPod 4th is having is apps that close in the background due to low memory. For example I'll have Yahoo Messenger account signed in and maybe typing this in safari, after going back to Yahoo Messenger I'll realize that's its been closed and starts from the startup screen and plays the sign in sound. That would not happen prior to ios 6, the new OS is using more memory.

Really? I don't have the home button issue...

My first iPod 4th gen button became stuck and Apple replaced it under warranty (though it was 6 days expired). The new iPod 4G worked fine but soon developed the problem you just described. It's hard to remember, but it could have been after installing iOS6...

Anyway, got the new iPod 5G and have had no such problems. Very pleased with this thoroughly improved devices, especially the faster processor, awesome camera, and much crisper screen. I personally also feel the home button is much more "clickier."

Nov 15, 2012 3:13 PM in response to Tommyvercetti

Yup, agree with the memory issues and apps closing in the background. My guess is all the tweeks apple technical support mentioned were to limit the amount of ram usage in the background. And also unnecessary CPU usage. My guess is also apple will come out with a 6.1 update optimizing performance got the 4G devices. But I also think that turning off services is probably going to be the long term solution for older devices. Again, I don't want to have to twiddle and experiment with settings. Just wasn't something I had to do before.

I did want to mention that apple technical support mentioned the 6.0.1 update does address some of the issues of 6.0.0 for 4G devices. What exactly who knows. But I'm reluctant and skeptical to update from 6 to 6.0.1. Last thing I need is to reset my iPod up again from scratch for a third time. I've already wasted too much time with this. But I'm tempted. What do you all think should I try it? I'll probably wait for a 6.1.

Ok, time for me to get a life and quit complaining. I will post back in the near future if I notice an improvement after the tweeks I did today. So far it appears much better. But I'll wait until I really use it over an extended poriod of time.

No offence but I could care less how the new iPod functions on iOS 6. I mean that's great and all and ya it would be cool to have one. But there is no excuse for apple to release an update that causes a perfectly functioning device to perform so poorly. Getting a new iPod to fix iOS 6 performance issues on a 4G seems very unreasonable.

Nov 15, 2012 3:24 PM in response to WDI

What did you expect? It was the same thing with iPod 3rd gen and iOS4 (or 5 can't remember). iOS6 pushes the limits of the 4G's outdated A4 chip. It's probably the same reason why the 4G suffers so much lag and crashes when playing graphically intense games or even loading Safari.

iOS6 will probably be the last iOS supported for the 4th gen iTouchs and iPhones.

Nov 15, 2012 3:32 PM in response to Empire_1

I have no problem with apple moving forward. But don't make it available on devices that are going to lose performance. I mean I'm new to apple and I had no idea apple would recommend an update that would cause so many problems. Live and learn I guess. I expected them to be better then that.
