If you have Time Machine "turned on", it should be keeping interim snapshots that it is saving to your disk. Perform a sync with your Time Machine drive, and those "local snapshots" should be available in order to perform a restoration. You will likely have a point yesterday you can choose, provided you were active on your computer yesterday.

If you want a specific file, then "Enter Time Machine", using your menubar icon, then select the restore point and navigate to the file, then restore that file.

To restore the entire system, use the Recovery Partition to restore from your Time Machine backup. (Boot to the Recovery Partition, by holding down the option key, while booting. Then select the Recovery drive. Follow the menu that appears after booting.
