how can I add my own pictures to screensaver?

My husband just got a new Mountain Lion Mac. The screensaver selections

don't interest him. What he'd really like is a blank/black screen when the

screensaver kicks in. I've downloaded a plain black jpg for him, but where

can I put it? How can "Screensaver" access it?

Thanks!

Put it in a folder all by itself, then open System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver. Go to the Screen Saver tab, and in the pop-up menu labeled "Source," select "Choose Folder." Select the folder you put the plain black image in.

Note that if you have a lot of images in an iPhoto or Aperture library, it can take some time for the Source menu to become available. Leave System Preferences open and on that pane until the Source menu no longer says "Loading..."
