Q: personal hot spot not working iphone 5

I had the same problem, then I found out from the carrier that you need to fill in the APN name also in the Internet Thetering section (same settings as in Celular Data section).

Check the following:

Settings -> General -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Network -> Internet Thetering

In my case I hat to set APN=online, then the miracle happened finally

RIGHT PEEPS! I have this sorted! Being a security guard on a site, a personal hotspot is important to me so I can use internet on my laptop. I have had the same problems as some of you and have spoken to my network provider which was also not that much help but after many attempts and hours I have found these steps have worked for me............

1.Have your iphone 5 unplugged from usb or mains

2.Turn off wifi and bluetooth

3.Go to personal hotspot

4.Turn on personal hotspot and then a message will appear with couple of tabs to choose from at bottom.Hit ''Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth''

5. Now your phone should be discoverable on your laptop (If it is not go back to iphone and turn personal hotspot on and off again then search for connections again on your laptop)

Some days I connect staright away and some days I have to repeat these steps or even turn my phone on and off. Its a pain in the *** but have found these steps the best way to get connected. I also found that my phone would not be discoverable when trying to connect with it plugged into mains.Once connected it is fine to plug into mains. Hope this helps
