Mac Retina restarts when opening iPhoto

My Mac Retina (3,5 months old) has recently become very instabile, specifically when I was using Iphoto.

Since a few days ago, I cannot even open Iphoto.

What happens is that the Mac retsrts sending me the panic log.

I have checked Hard drive (50% full) and RAM but cannot understand what to do.

Look as if you may getting kernel panics when your discrete graphics card kicks in - if you've Photoshop, Google Chrome, or any other apps that are discrete graphics dependent, see if you have a kernel crash using them.

The best thing I can suggest is that you run the Apple Hardware Test and, if you receive any errors (or if you continue to receive kernel panics) take your unit to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run extensive diagnostics. It just looks as if it's a graphics card problem.

Good luck,

Clinton

Clinton.

I have no problems with using Google Chrome.

The result from performing the Apple Hardware Test turned out to be "No problems found" so I guess that the only option is to have the Apple Store have a look at it.

It's a bummer though since I thought that I would manage this without having to get the3 year Apple Care package which will set me back USD 540... 😠

Yeah, it's time for a trip to the Apple Store. The Apple Hardware Test isn't very extensive - I still suspect that it's a graphics card issue (which very well may mean a whole logic board replacement).

But Apple can run better diagnostics than the AHT, so give it a shot. And although AppleCare is expensive, I always buy it (sounds as if it's a lot more expensive where you are, though).

Good luck,

Clinton
