Hi everyone,
Ok, so i know that this is not a good browser and that there are plenty of better alternatives.
However, for some reason, my work have a system that will only work with ie.
I need to access this system from home, i've looked at various sites (winebottler/Virtualbox) and nothing seems to work.
Is there anyway i can run ie from my mac that actually works?

You can download VirtualBox (as you did), Parallels or VMware Fusion and install a Windows copy, or you can use Boot Camp to install Windows on the Mac > http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp

Try also CrossOver, a wine based product that help to run windows program without windows o.s. http://www.codeweavers.com/

Another thing people try in such a situation is to turn on the Develop menu in Safari (via Safari Preferences, Advanced). Then in the Develop menu, select User Agent and the select some version of Internet Exploder. All this does is have Safari report to the server that it is IE. Occasionally that's good enough.

Thanks for all the quick responses - i guess i was looking for a quick, free, and easy solution to this. I'm trying really hard not to have a rant about the necessity of having browser-specific programs...

keep in mind that CrossOver and other WINE-based options may not support all features. For instance, ActiveX features cannot be run well (if at all) in WINE, so if a site requires these then you may be out of luck with this option.

CT....you earned a stairway to heaven!!! I have been struggling for 2 years b/c all the insurance certifications I must obtain from various carriers require IE. I was told to suck it up and buy a pc but i REFUSED. This worked perfectly!!! Thank you soooo much!!
I can confirm that the latest Crossover 12.5 doesn't let you install IE9. I've seen on the forums where people have tried it and I've also not been able to complete the installation.
IE9 on Mac is going to have to be with Parallels, VMware, Virtualbox, etc. at least for now.
Thank you for posting this!! It works to run IE beautifully. I am now successfully running IE to perform a single (crappy) job function. (And didn't have to download anything, purchase anything, or waste any more time trying to figure this out. Thank you, CT!
In Safari (ver 9.1)
> Select "Preferences" from drop down menu
> Click on "Advanced" tab
> Check box "Show Develop menu in menu bar"
> Now you'll see "Develop" in the Main Menu bar
> Select whatever version of IE (or other browsers)!
