I'm taking video on a JVC everio and it saves in a .mod format. I'm thinking I can change the extension to mpg or mov and it will work. How do I change the extension names. Anyone have experience with this?

I'm taking footage of my high school footballer and want to get it in iMovie so I can share it on youtube or burn a disc. I'm shooting on a JVC Everio that records it with a .MOD4 extension so iMovie can't read it.

Can I just change the extension to MPG or MOV and have it work? I copied and pasted the file on my Mac but don't know how to change the file extension, can someone please help? I hit the control key and clicked on the file but don't see "rename" as an option.

Anyone have success working with the JVC Everio and interfacing with a Mac? I have an iMac and a MacBook.
