Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply

And the DVD won't mount. Also just trying to launch DVD player from the apps menu (without a disc in the drive) gets me the same error message. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
One person with the
same issue was able to fix it by repairing the permissions when a disk wasn't in the drive. Another
possible solution involves checking the ~/Library/Application Support/DVD Player Bookmarks/ and ~/Library/Application Support/DVD Player Scripts/ folders, and creating them if necessary.
Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I did try the permissions repair as had been suggested by my local Mac guru before I tried the discussion board. Didn't work.
However your suggestion of looking at the DVD Player Scripts and Bookmarks folders ended up paying off. But I cheated a little.
As suggested, I found the two folders in my "home" area of the Mac, like you said: Library/Application Support/...and there they were: two folders called DVD Player Bookmarks, and DVD Player Scripts. So far, nothing seemed amiss.
Here's the cheat. I happen to have another G5 networked with this one in the other studio (I'm in the audio recording business), and I looked for the same folders on that one, since the DVD worked normally on it, to look for any obvious differences. Lo and behold, IT'S two folders (scripts and bookmarks) were in the same locations, BUT were "contained" in a folder called "DVD Player" - unlike it's malfunctioning brother. Once I created the "DVD Player" folder and dragged the Scripts and Bookmarks folders into it - the DVD worked just fine. So it was the the missing piece of hierarchy, I presume, that was causing the problem.
I would never have known where to look, though, without your suggestion. By the way, my Mac guru - who I think is pretty darned smart - didn't realize that an Application Support file existed for each individual user. He thought it was only on the main Mac HD (which didn't have a DVD Player file in it), so he learned something new as well.
Thanks for your help. And to all who made suggestions.
