Shortcut Command not Working

I have Macbook Pro and it's been working perfectly but today my Cmd-V (Paste) command is not working. I thought perhaps it was the key on the keyboard so I tried the other Cmd key - still not working. When I type the letter V, the key works, so it is not a problem with the keys. I was copying something from Google Translate and tried to paste it into TextEdit - no luck. Can anyone help?
