Nov 7, 2012 9:00 AM in response to faberastby danfred.ca,I spoke too soon. This morning after taking my phone off the charger. The heating issue and rapid battery drain was back.
I think it is an issue with LTE. Once I turn off LTE the phone cools to normal and the drain seem to be more normal.
Wifi on or off does not seem to be an issue.
So it Seem Apple is marketing an LTE/4G phone that does not work on and LTE network. Totally useless as an LTE phone. What a scam.

Nov 7, 2012 9:20 AM in response to danfred.caby modular747,Scam? No problem with LTE, overheating, or excessive battery drain with my iP5 or 5 others I know in several areas on the USA. Drawing conclusions based on one example is the wrong way to go.

Nov 7, 2012 9:42 AM in response to faberastby danfred.ca,Uh Oh
Here come the Apple defense police.
All defense. But no help.
I guess it my own fault for updating to their new software.

Nov 8, 2012 3:37 AM in response to danfred.caby Player8,danfred LTE does heat up your phone with normal to heavy use anyway, does the battery drain issue go away with LTE off? LTE can be a battery drain monster but a service has to be using it to cause the heat build up, your exchange account now on manual?

Nov 8, 2012 5:25 PM in response to faberastby danfred.ca,The only way I can have a useful phone is to have LTE turned off. I get a relatively normal battery life this way.
This has ONLY BEEN SINCE THE iOS 6.0.1 update.
The phone was functioning just fine before, using LTE and Push for exchange. I am a very light user. Only a few calls, some emails, very low daily data usage. Most on Wifi anyway. I would take the phone off the charger fully charged at 8am and put on the charger at 10pm with usually still over 20% on the battery.
Now if I leave LTE on and use like before, the battery will be completely drained in less than a couple hours.
I had no glitches installing the update. So why is the battery rapidly draining now???
So it seems the iPhone 5 is now just a 3G phone. I bought this phone new on first day of release cost about $1000 including taxes and Rogers etc.
This weekend I will do another full restore, but this time setup as a new phone, no backup restore. If that doesnt work I guess I go back to the store. Where some "Genius" will offer me a USED replacement.
Any other ideas, other than turning functions off because they are now disfunctional?

Nov 9, 2012 5:05 AM in response to danfred.caby Player8,Looking at your past history it seems to be related to your exchange server, interesting read in the link below.

As old habits die hard I turn of Wi Fi every time I leave my flat, I don't get heat issues with my exchange server on push.

Nov 21, 2012 1:55 PM in response to danfred.caby llirik K,I have the exact same issue, only after 6.0.1 upgrade. I don't have an exchange account, and my country doesn't have LTE working for hte iphone yet, so its not that.
It's definitely the upgrade. I was amazed on 6.0 that i could get through way more than a day and now its less than half of that.
ive tried resetting, all the way to restoring via itunes... and it fixed hte issue... for literally 2 days. and then its back.
