Q: light colors are gone for Mac Mini (late 2012)

Light colors are shown only under the other window's shadow area. (see the alternative row of blue color under TextEdit's shadow). Adjust the display from its OSD / tune using ColorSync doesn't help. (enhance contrast is set to "normal"; PRAM has been reset)

Do you have similar issue?

i have the same problem with washed out light gray colors on a 2012 mac mini 2.3GHz quad.  i ended up returning a monitor to best buy because i thought it was the monitor.  guess they get an open box courtesy of apple this time.

these are the configurations i have tried:

    BAD

    hdmi to hdmi

mini dp to hdmi (with rocketfish mini dp to hdmi adapter)

    BETTER

hdmi to dvi (with included apple adapter)

mini dp to dvi (with rocketfish mini dp to dvi adapter)

looking at the website below that shows a gradient for testing, the bad configurations (hdmi to monitor) have 224 - 255 completely washed out, whereas with the better configurations (dvi to monitor) the gradient is visible throughout.

for now i'm just going to use the included hdmi to dvi adapter and input to the monitor with DVI.  hopefully the 10.8.3 release will fix this.

What a crap, i have the exact same thing. The background of my website isnt even visible.. I want to connect with hdmi because i have another pc connected to the screen already with DVI. This is really disapointing

I will try the DVI setup to check if there is any difference. Otherwise i would have to return this thing because this way its useless.

I am dealing with this issue since three months now. have to use the VGA port with an MDP (Thunderbolt) to VGA adapter. That gives me the best picture result.

Brought the machine back to apple and they confirmed that this is really an "issue".

Waiting now since ages for an update or a fix, but nothing happens.

Apple just wants to wait-out the problem

I guess it's good that I'm not alone? I've go this issue too. Just purchased, two days old straight out of the box, wonky HDMI. My old Mac Mini was no problem. This one 2012 is verified that the HDMI output is the issue. [4 different monitors, 4 different HDMI cables]. The thunderbolt port is doing fine. I can tweak the contrast and whatnot to make it tolerable to use, but impossible to use for color work in any way.

just ran the 10.8.3 update and am now able to see the full gradient on my monitor via hdmi - all shades of grey (see my previous post for the site i used to test).

glad to see this one fixed.  looking forward to giving it another try with my tv next.

Release 10.8.3 appears to have fixed the HDMI display issues.  It has with may Mac mini (late 2012).  I now have full color depth support using the HDMI to my LG display.  It didn't support it before with 10.8.2.

I just installed the release version of OS X 10.8.3 on our 2012 Mac mini, and colors appear to be back to normal. I did a fresh calibration. Looks great.

We were having a new problem where the display (Dell 1080p via HDMI) would very rarely go green/violet until I re-plugged the HDMI cable. Seemed different than the blanking problem recently solved with the EFI update. Hopefully, this stops that as well.
