iPod Nano 2012 FM Radio Quality Question

I have an old

Second Generation iPod Nano The Red One. It still works perfectly. but this Nano doesn't not include an FM radio. I would really like to be able to listen to the radio when I need idea's for new songs to buy off iTunes.

I want the absolute highest Quality Digital Tuner Possible that I can use with headphones.

Is there anyone who has bought several iPod Nanos and has the ability to compare to see if the quality has improved with each generation.

I would like as many peoples opinions as possible

It is the same FM radio chipset in each Nano generation that has FM Radio.

Actually the FM tuner in the new 7G is different from earlier generations. Both BT and FM functionality is now provided by a Broadcom chipset (BCM2078KUBG) according to the iFixit teardown. FM was provided by a different supplier in previous generations. I've compared my 7th Generation with the 6th Generation and can't hear a significant difference between the two. Like the controls better on the 7th.

Not anywhere close. FM radio is heavily compressed before it even gets to the Nano.

so is it any worse then any other radio you could purchase.

Its not like Walkman Radios are created anymore.

I read that the Headphones are used as an anntana to get better reception.

I want a radio I can use with headphones that has a digital tuner so I can tune in effectively. the radios with a wheel are a pain to get really accurate reception

It is equivalent to other portable FM radios that I have used. Yes, the headphone cord is the antenna.

Would you buy a 7th Gen Nano Mainly for the FM Radio? Of couse I will put my iTunes music on it. but my current second gen Nano just works perfectly

If FM Radio is a priority for you, then probably. Everyone has their own factors to consider when deciding - mine would be a combo of stereo BT, BLE connectivity and FM Radio in that order.

Stereo Bluetooth is A2DP, a BT protocol that allows connection to stereo headphones and other audio devices.

BLE is Bluetooth Low Energy a connectivity protocol to control other devices. The Nano does not have it.

sometimes I get bored of listening to the same songs on my ipod over and over. it would be nice to have the radio. Nano's are much cheaper and double the storage they were back during the second gen iPod nano. I love getting the RED version and having my name put on the back. My Current nano has my name in white. but when go to the part where you type out what you want to appear on the back it was showing the text in black.
