The power button stopped working...
Does that mean I need to retire it and get a new one? I have the Nano 6Gen. It is less than a year old. Received it as a gift Christmas 2011.

No, it means as soon as possilbe make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and get it replaced under your warranty.
