Adding phone number to phone goes to hotmail group

For some reason, whenever I add a number to my iphone 5, it gets stored in the Hotmail groups.

It's pretty annoying. How do I transfer numbers I've already added to my phone to iCloud group and also stop future numbers from going to Hotmail and just getting added to iCloud?

if you want to make contacts in your icloud group, go to settings > mail contacts and calendars > under contacts choose 'default' and change it to icloud

to merge the contacts that are on your phone into the icloud server, go to settings > icloud > turn off contacts syncing (choose the 'keep on iphone' option), then turn it back on and it should give you the option to merge the contacts that aren't in the icloud group into that group.
