What is the original version of software on iPhone 3gs?

When the iPhone 3GS was first available, what was the version of software it came with and is it possible to replace the version I have with the origianl version?

The iPhone 3GS came with iPhone OS3.0. It's not possible to install this version if you have iOS 6

What if I have version IOS 5 or earlier? Is it possible then? I can downgrade from IOS 6.
