Does the iPad mini have the same slow charging issues as my "New IPad"?

I'm considering returning my New IPad and purchasing the iPad mini due to the slow charging issues with my New IPad. Does anyone know if the mini has the same issue? Does anyone know if Apple is planning on offering a different charger for the New IPad? I love everything about the New IPad except the charging system. I can't use it as much as I would like to. It's so disappointing!!!!

Slow charging is one of the things that many people complained about with the iPad 3. I just assumed that this is something that they would have fixed with the new iPad. My 3 charges at 16 percent per hour. I cannot wait to give the new 12 watt charger a try! I will be buying it as soon as it is available at the Apple store near me.

I read somewhere that the iPad Mini is shipping with the same 5 watt charger that ships with the iPod. I'd imagine that the 12 watt charger would make a big difference in charging the mini. The 12 watt charger should make a diff with the iPad 4 as well, I'd think. Can't wait to give it a try on my 3. 🙂

I assume some devices are made to charge at higher ratings than the charger they ship with. For example a device may be capable of charging at 6 watts but ships with a 5 watt charger. This device will charge a little slower with the included charger however will charge a little faster safely at 6 watts if connected to a larger rated charger such as the 12 watt iPad charger.

The ipad mini does recharge considerably slow, and i have trouble with the lightning connectors. If i plug the USB end into my PC laptop, the ipad will not charge but still sends data. Really anything i plug the USB into that apple didnt create doesnt work well. I understand the point about charging in while you sleep, however these devices are hard to put down and no apple device has ever given me a full day's use without needing a charge. Perhaps its the guage of the charging wire as the lightning connector wire is much thinner than the 30 pin. Charging a larger device with a thinner guage cable just seems silly to me. I think the only reason apple changed the connector is so we have to buy their chargers and not a 3rd party's. A good rule of thumb with Apple tablets and phones is that you can never have enough chargers. I keep one at work, one in the car, and one at home.

I also have issues when charging my brand new iPad mini. I got astonished when I tried to charge it yersterday and realized it took more more time to charge than my iPod Touch 4th generation, which really charges very fast! It even did'nt charge completely so when I got home I put mi iPad mini to charge overnight, at about 12.30 AM, when it had about 13% charge left.

This morning I got shocked when I saw at 6 Am that it hadn't charged completely. Just 96%, which means the iPad mini can't be totally charged during a 6 hours charging session. So after reading all these posts I get disappointed with this huge issue for iPad users. How can we endure such a long charging sessions for a device that you normally use all the time. For instance, when you're traveling you always need to charge the iPad very quickly. Just a few travelers would allow their ipads to rule their schedules on such a bizarre way!

I was also worried because I don't live in the States. It was my brother who bought it for me, so taking my device to the Apple Glass Cube in New York or any other retailer or just to have this issue technically solved is a big problem for me! So international customers who think to buy this wonderful mini tablet should consider that such a marvelous device is dealing with an absurd and disappointing big problem related to an aspect customers would hardly imagine.

Hi everyone! I just would like you re-assure you all that the slow charge on ALL iPads are completly normal. They are actually made that way to retain good battery health. Well you see, the faster you charge battery cells, the lower life they have which results in a battery that can't hold a charge. I hope I was able to help you all, If anyone has anyone questions regarding this concern please feel free to ask away. 🙂
