After some update ? I can´t import pics from my internal HD as I did för yrs.... Sometimes not even from an USB stick. Directly from camera is ok. No files show up when I indicate in the import ehere th new pics are..??? Have updateted and even reinstalled Aperture, checked harddrive , controlled and repaired etc etc...
What happened???

MacBook pro early 2011, i7 , (8GB/750GB (less than 50% full)
Aperture ver 3.4.2
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
(iPhoto 11 ver 9.4.1)

1. New user (also admin) has an own library and as with my std user I can import depending from what folder, same behavior that is. From some folders I can save in current location and see the files and from some imort is possible only to the perture Library!? And some nothing seen nothing to import. But tried with iPhoto and all folders work perfect with iPhoto. I can´t see what Aperture sees as obstacles with some -random ?? or what folders...??
2. Had the same cameras for yrs before this started Lumix TZ7 (only jpeg) Lumix LX5 raw+jpeg and an old Pentax K10. No differnt pics now or 2 yrs back. Seems not related to cameas but the folders themselves. I have been creating folders myself for my own system for the originals stored in pictures=Bilder-Library in swedish. No differences that I can see but obviously Aperture treats some folders different. Looking at permissions they do not stand out as different to me. No differnce in naming same characters (only english used in folder names etc) External drives are formatted the same way for yrs and only backup use. Mac OS journaled extended it is. The No Name 32 GB USB is MSDOS only used temporarily-read and write permissions are there as with all drives.
The repair utilities in Aperture and disk permission repairs after Cmd +R BOOT seems little helpful.
It finds around 50 faults repair them and then if doing it again another 50 faults - or the same are still around???
What a mess....Any hints or good ideas out there????
I have to think about this - but one small comment: This might be one of the problems:
The No Name 32 GB USB is MSDOS only used temporarily-read and write permissions are there as with all drives.
The most recent Aperture version seems to check the formatting of the file system. An Aperture library should only be stored on a volume formatted Mac OS X Extended, and with the newest version this check seems to be extended to the filesystem storing the referenced originals. At least I could not keep referenced originals on a MS-DOS(FAT) thumbs drive. What happens, when you move your folder with images from the MSDOS ony drive to a Mac OS X Extended drive. Do you see the images then and can you store "In the current location"?
I have never saved any refernced files on a MSDOS formatted drive. This was just a one time test since that usb drive happened to be connected. The same things happen from some folders on the HD os extended. And.. the camera SD drives are MSDOS or...? Some folders I can import and some don´t from my Macintosh HD. What the difference between these folders is would be very interesting to know....

Try experimenting with one folder that you can import, and one folder that you cannot.
You have too many variables in the picture that are unknown.
how about creating a new, empty Aperture library on your system volume and trying to import from one of the folders that does not work.
Can you import into that empty library? Then your main Aperture library is the problem.
If you cannot, then try to find out if the contents of the folder is that problem, or the folder, or its location.
Try systematically to remove items from the problematic folder and see, if you can import it this way.
Move the items to a folder that you can import and see, if tat changes, when you move the items.
check if the folder itself is causing the problem or the folder/disk that is containing it.

The permissions check by disk utility may show errors, that are irrelevant. It checks for standard permissions, but some applications will change the permissions over and over again, if they need different permissions. A real problem may be a corrupted file system on your system drive, and that can only be repaired by booting into the recovery partion, for you cannot repair the system drive while the system is running from this drive.
Have done that 3 times...(booting into the recovery partion that is and done repair from there..) but no difference after that..! Would for example "DISK WORRIER" program or some other alternate Utility program..any suggestions......? do it better??

Maybe, but I have never used those, so I cannot give a recommendation on that.
If iPhoto sees the image files in all folders and on all drives that Aperture cannot see?
And you see the same problem (invisible image files in the Import window) with other disks?
Then I think it unlikely that the disks itself are faulty.
Any progress with moving image files around between folders and disks?

Seriously, Disk Warrior does check drives more extensively, just make sure that you're updated to the latest version (4.4, I believe). And make sure you have a backup of your vital info before you attempt any repairs.

Hello again....
After massive testing with names, permissions, libraries, disks etc I finally think I found something!
For > 2 years I have had my Lumix cameras and the same own system for saving originals on mu Hard Drive.
This has worked fine until 3-6 moths ago when the option to "save in current location" was greyed out.
Probably after some Aperture update??
Now I got tired of not being able to use Aperture and so this discussion....
The file system on Lumix SD card looks like in this picture under LX 5 All 2011 12 31 - where You see the last dictionary =PRIVATE in this the videos are stored.
Under LX 5 2012 11 03 I have changed the name from PRIVATE to VIDEO manually.
After doing this simple change Aperture is back in full swing like it used to be-everything works...???!!!
the only problem left over is when I try to import from any of my folders with Private in them then the option
"save in current location" is greyed out and I have to restart Aperture and not try import from a folder with PRIVATE in them!!😕 ..and if I avoid this everything works just fine.
This works the same whatever I import from, USB, ext. Harddrive etc...
What can one say....?? I do have a Pentax K10 and a Sony video and there it seems the files are directly
under the card name when seen from the computer....
What Aperture sees from a folder with PRIVATE is just the videos regardless of what boxes you ticked except when No videos is ticked the nothing. Sometimes ⚠ it sees pics, show the number of pics but do not show pics on screen? And then again current location is no option...
Would be real interesting to hear what You and other users say here...!!! Only my Aperture doesn´t like PRIVATE or what?? Being respectful ?? 😁

That is a promising finding! Great!
Can you see any difference between the "video" folder and the original ""Private" folder? If you select them and inspect them with "File > Get Info"? Different permissions, lock bit?
How did you create the folders "LX5 All", "Pentax", ...? Did you simply drag the folder from your card to the backup drive?

No difference at all in the info between PRIVATE and VIDEO folders!
In most cases I dragged the folders over from the SD card to a manually made new folder on the desktop which then was moved to (dragged) to my own Storage folder were I keep my originals...
Have You tested your own Aperture if it is as allergic to PRIVATE folder??

I just tested - the name alone does not make a difference.
The file system on the card of my camera (Lumix FZ28) is probably different from yours. I only see DCIM and MISC folders, no PRIVATE. So I faked a PRIVATE folder, but that did not make any difference.
My Aperture did show me all files, and also the "Store" option was there.
Something must have happened, when you renamed the folder. Did you have to enter an admin password?
