my battery stays at 0% and will not charge when it's plugged in
please help!
please help!
Also...it shuts down when it is unplugged.
checked the battery under 'hardware" and it is telling me that it is not getting a charge and it is telling me to "check battery"....what does this mean? Do I need to replace the battery or is this a sign of something worse?

Given this and the other symptoms you describe you probably just need to replace it. Batteries don't last forever.
Thank you for the response. I figured it was a battery replacement but wanted to check to see if I could do some type of system check to reset something. Do you know how much a replacement battery will run?
If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.
Or for $129 from The Apple Store http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA566LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Depends on your specific model MacBook. Ones with batteries that are not "user-replaceable" will cost a bit more, but plan on $140 or so.
I would stay away from knockoff third party batteries. Many have reported good success with them, and they are cheaper than Apple's, but they don't last as long.
Apple doesn’t make any batteries. They buy them from the same manufacturers that the third party sellers are buying from. The only difference is that Apple has their logo imprinted on the battery. And Apple only has a 90 day warranty on their batteries while many third party vendors have a 3 year warranty on theirs.
I have the same problem over 16 cycles de battery shut down. Apple says this is normal.

No, this is not normal. Your battery needs to be replaced:
Conditie: Vervang nu
Just my two cents. After 4 years the original battery in my 2007 MacBook was getting weak so I shopped around and bought a well reviewed third party battery for $49. When installed my trackpad wouldn't work because the battery was out of spec and pressed up on the trackpad from unrneath. I contacted the seller and they replaced it right away with another that wouldn't charge, they also replaced that with one that wouldn't let my trackpad work again. I asked for and received a refund. I then went to OWC and bought a Newer Tech battery for $89 and it worked great for a year and a half, it's now dead to the point that if I install it the computer will instantly shut down. It must be shorted out or something. So last evening I bit the bullet and ordered an original replacement from Apple for $129. Hopefully it'll last 4 years like the original. The moral of the story is that there are at least 3 grades of replacement batteries, really cheap, less expensive and original. Those are my experiences with all three, choose your poison wisely!
