recover deleted file

I accidently deleted a file and i need it back.

it was a photo from my camera. i plugged in my SD card from my camera, took the photo off and put it on the desktop. then i accidently deleted it later that night when i was cleaning stuff up on my desktop, then i emptied my recycling can.

This was only about 4 days ago. Is there any way of getting this file back?

the file has also been deleted from the SD card because it was formatted right after i put it back into my camera.

I normally do backup's of my computer on an external hard drive but this all happened in the span of a few hours so i never did any update during that time.

Any suggestions?

Basics of File Recovery

Files in Trash

If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.

If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.

General File Recovery

If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

As Kappy writes, you need a data recovery tool to regain your photos back as long as you have not rewritten the original data. Do not save new data on this SD card and connect it to a computer or laptop via a card Reader.
And then, download data recovery software to restore your photos back. There are plenty of data recovery tools. You should cautiously select a right one.
Run the software several times so that you could restore the largest amount of your data.
At last, save your recovered data on a different card or drive in case of recovery failure.
Important note: The rewritten data can be erased forever. You should remember not to put new file to rewrite the original data.

The recovered data should be saved on a different storage device in case of data loss.
You are supposed to make data backups as possible as you can in the future.

Here's the problem: I have a sd card drive that I have been using
daly for a couple of years. Yes, the connector has bent on occasion
(not severely). A few weeks ago, all was fine. When I went to work
after the weekend, my PC said it might be Mac formatted. I tried a few
computers at work and got e same message. When I tried at home on my old
computer the error was that it might need to be reformatted, I usd Vibosoft card data recovery , it works perfectly:

If you did not empty the Trash, click on the Trash icon at the right side of the Dock and drag those files to a different location to recover deleted files on Mac.

If you emptied the Trash, it is more difficult. Typically, when a file is erase, it is not really erased. The space the file occupied become unallocated, so that new data can be written over that space. If new data files have not yet been written over that space, the old data is still there and may be recoverable.

There are utilities specifically for data recovery. For example (I have not used)

Other more general utilities, have a data recovery "module" as part of the package. I have this utility (and it's a good product), but I have never used it for doing data recovery.

You may be able to use such Data Recovery for Mac software to recover erased data. If you intend to try, you should use the disk that held the erased data as little as possible, to reduce the likelihood that new data files will be written over the space used by the old data. Hope you can quickly solved the issue about how to recover deleted files from Mac Trash.
