Canon Vixia HV40 not initializing in Final Cut Express

Greetings,

Using FCE 4.0.1 in 10.8.2 on a Power Mac 2x3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Early 2008 with 16GB ram;

I have made a fire wire connection from a Canon Vixia HV10 DRV camera where the camera shows it is connected in addition to the camera listed under the Hardware report summary Firewire Bus. So, it appears that the camera is recognized by the Mac.

The camera when on and set to play will not appear within FCE, where I receive the error dialog box 'Unable to initialize video deck, you may still use capture now.'

I have deleted the com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist file as well as the related user data folder without any change. The Easy Setup is set to DV-NTSC.

Hello Scott,

The HV40 is an HDV camcorder. In FCE, the DV-NTSC easy setup is not the correct one to use; you only use that easy setup with DV video. (HDV and DV are not the same.) That is why FCE is not recognizing the camcorder.

You should be using one of the HDV Apple Intermediate Codec easy setups that matches how you shot your video. If you are in North America the correct easy setup is usually HDV Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60.
