Burning Double Layer DVD on Toast

I'm attempting to burn double layer DVDs (all legal and unencrypted) of Six Feet Under, but when I put a DVD-R DL in, Toast reads it in "Status" as a CD-R. It burns just fine, under it reaches 100%, at which point it gives the following message:

The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
Sense code = 0x72, 0x03
SENSE FIXATION ERROR - INCOMPLETE TRACK IN SESSION

I've been hunting for a reason for this, but can't find one. Thoughts?

PowerMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.1), Toast Titanium 6

SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A:

Firmware Revision: KAS7
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: No

Sorry, that's what I've been using...DVD+R DL discs. Toast doesn't give me the option to choose the media. It chooses it for me after I insert the disc.

In Toast 6 - with this Pioneer DVR-110D drive, with similar burn capability to your Sony in System Profiler, the 'status' info is:

Blank DVD+R Double Layer

If you are getting "CD-R" then the drive is not recognising the media correctly.

As your drive is Apple shipped/supported the firmware may have been updated. You could consider the 10.4.6 combo updater

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1046comboforppc.html

You could check that you have Toast v.6.1.1

If you have had the drive a while, or the environment is dusty, you could even try cleaning the lens.

But probably the simplest thing to try is a different brand of media.

These discs are Infiniti "Professional". Other brands of media are available.

Hope this solves your problem.
