Nov 5, 2012 7:29 AM in response to marzefonaby varjak paw,★HelpfulOS X 10.8 is not a free upgrade. You need to purchase 10.8 from the Mac App Store before you could then apply the update you downloaded (which will not be necessary since you'll get 10.8.2 when you download from the App Store). Confirm that your system will run Mountain Lion and learn the precise process here:

Nov 5, 2012 7:33 AM in response to marzefonaby QuickTimeKirk,★HelpfuliCloud requires Lion, or higher (Mountain Lion).
Apple no longer sells Lion via the App Store but, if your machine supports it, you can purchase and download Mountain Lion ($19).
You can't install the 10.8.2 update on your 10.6.8 OS. You must purchase Mountain Lion first.

Click on the Apple icon.. Top left in Finder...
> About this Mac > Version...what does it say?
Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
or CCC http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
you will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)
Also, Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...
