Added mp4 file doesn't show in iTunes

Help!

Have a mp4 video file that was on my desktop. Chose iTunes "Add To Library" and chose the file. I have iTunes set to copy files to iTunes Media folder, and that was done, a new copy of the file was made inside the iTunes Media folder, but I can't see the file anywhere in iTunes. Not in Movies (Genres or Unwatched tab), not in TVShows, nowhere. I can open the file in both Quicktime and even right click and force to open in iTunes and the video will play so its not the codec. Tried taking both the original file and the iTunes copy and dragging into iTunes, nothing happens, still can't see it within the iTunes interface.

Even opened the iTunes Music Library XML file and I can see an entry in there for the video file, the metadata looks similar to another video I can see just fine.

Fully closed iTunes, even rebooted Mac, no difference.

Any ideas? This one has me stumped.

Is it in your Recently Added playlist?

Some have reported Match causing files to delay in appearing in the normal playlist for quite some time (hours?)

Are you sure the file is correctly tagged? It may be appearing under whatever the file name happens to be.

Getting closer ... thanks for the tip on Recently Added ... for some reason that is a default playlist that I have never used in my 5+ years of using iTunes. Found the video file in there.

So I have seen the match delay on adding audio files but never on video files. Either way, its been days since I added the file. Checked out all the metadata I could think to look at, everything looked OK. Even changed the type from "movie" to "tv show" just to see and it didn't show up there either.

I'm sure there's a setting or something simple I'm missing here, hoping someone has done the hard work on this one before?

I've seen others report this. No easy answer. A list of things to try:

Try changing the name of the movie a bit and see if it then shows.

Double check your criteria. Are you sure it is labeled as a movie file? Drag the file to an empty iTunes playlist and see if it appears there.

Restart iTunes.

Delete the item from iTunes but don't let it delete the file. Add it again.
