I've tried my etymotic ety8 heaphones and Sony blue tooth headphones and neither have shown up on my iPod when it's searching for devices. I see where the nano supports A2DP and AVRCP BT protocols which is the same as my Ety8's so not sure why this is happening unless my iPod is possible defective.

Did you make sure they were in pairing mode? Check if other devices can find those headsets, may be with your phone?
Both of these bluetooth headsets will work with their respective dongles plugged into my old iPod nano. The reason I bought this new nano was so that I wouldn't have to use these dongles again.
Check if the headsets are still paired with your old nano. Which Sony headset are you using?
They both are still paired with the dongles that go in my old nano but the new nano doesn't find either of them when it's "looking" for a bluetooth source. Sony model DR-BT50.
Do you have a phone that can search for BT headsets? If yes, then put the Sony headset in pairing mode and see if that phone can detect this headset.
I don't but my son does, these are actually his headphones but I'll have to wait until Thanksgiving to see him. The ety8's are mine and what I planned to use with this nano. If I'd known they weren't compatible I wouldn't have bought the new nano.

Pairing with another Bluetooth® device:
• Make sure the earphones are OFF.
• Press/hold the POWER button on the R earphone for about 10 seconds.
• The LED on R earphone will rapidly flash green when ready for pairing.
• The earphones will stay in a discoverable mode for five minutes or until pairing is complete.
• If a passkey is requested, enter "0000"
Note: Bluetooth transmitter pairing varies. For best results, consult the user instructions for the specific device being paired with these earphones.

OMG, this worked! I feel like such an idiot. I've had these ety's so long that I don't know where the manual is. I love my nano now. Now if only I could find a good clear protective case for it.
