LED Cinema Display vs. Thunderbolt Display

I have a 24" LED Cinema Display I use with my fully loaded MacBook Air. While I'm happy with the display, I wonder if there are any advantages to the 27" Thunderbolt Display (other than the obvious small increase in size). The LED Cinema Dispay is about three years old and I'm starting to see a little bit of what appears to be "liquid lines" (best way I can describe them) in the lower left corner. Though I rarely stretch out my browser, or anything else with a white background, that far...I know they're there and it bothers me. As far as viewing the two displays, are they about the same? If so, I'll save the $1K and live with the lines. Thanks.
