I want to be able to manually delete episodes from my ipod from my mac but its greyed out and every instance I try to uncheck "sync podcasts" from the podcasts tab it re-checks it. What to do?

Can someone help me with this? I get that a lot of people are having related issues but I thought that was specific to the "Podcast" app which I've since deleted and invested in Downcast. New episodes I drag show up in the music app but when I try to delete one on the ipod, it doesn't register from my computer, and I can't delete from my computer.
