My mac book pro has a booting problem. It takes forever at the apple logo and after sometime the apple logo vanishes but the loading icon still continues for a while. Which continues please advice

if full boot is under 1 minute - it can be, depends on lot of things. Over 1 min will be unusual.
anyway boot from recovery, repair drive, repair permissions, reboot, clean some space on HD (like empty trash or trash something), reboot and see what'll happen
I tried it but it didn't work. The hard disk had totally failed so had to purchase a new one. A Toshiba when I try to format it using disk utility during set up, it gives me the following error : DISK ERASE FAILED WITH THE ERROR
WIPING VOLUME DATA TO PREVENT FUTURE ACCIDENTAL PROBING FAILED.
It's a new hard disk which has not yet been formatted at all. Could you please advise on the way forward ?
early 2011 MBP? If so - install firmware updates and all be fine.
Otherwice show it to Applestore people, looks like hardware problem.
