Q: 50 GB free, only using 51 GB - 120GB SSD

Hey

I have been having a problem with my free space on my Macbook Air 120GB SSD.

Via OmniDiskSweeper i see that i am using 50GB out of a total of 120GB. Thats after a clean restart and with Time Machine disabled. But the finder says that only 50 GB is free. So where is the remaning 20GB?

Btw, my "User" folder uses 50GB, according to finder, but accourding to OmniDiskSweeper it only uses 30gb

While this may not account for all of the discrepencies it does explain a little about how storage is reported for SSD drives

Finder is not the best way of determing how much space is being taken up on the computer.
Use disk utitlity or you can use various terminal commands to get a better idea about storage.

Terminal Commands

df -h

or if you would like to know how much each folder is taking up

cd /
sudo du -khd 1
