Trying to use Emoji with Ipad 2 paired with Kensington Keyfolio keyboard

I have ipad 2 with Kensington Keyfolio keyboard. Emoji will not display when the keyboard is connected. It works when I disconnect the keyboard and use the touch keyboard. Is Emoji not supported using the Keyfolio keyboard?
