What should I do if my iPod won't let me download some apps and it says I need iOS 5?

I'm trying to download the twitter app again to my iPod touch but it keeps saying I need iOS 5 but I don't know what to do or how to get it, what do I need to do?

jgwynn86, that assumes that he has a 3G or 4G iPod.The poster has already said when he tries to update via iTunes iTunes says he his up to date. Thus he must have a 1G or 2G iPod. Also, only the 4G iPod can go to iOS 6.X. The 3G can only go to 5.1.1.

Allow me to offer a formal apology for 'assuming' something that was never stated. To the original poster, I'm afraid your device is simply out-dated, if you have a first or second generation device. But fret not, because the computer I bought brand new earlier this year has been out-dated since 5 minutes after I made the purchase. To lllaass, I was merely offering an alternative solution, as perhaps the original poster had an outdated version of iTunes, or limited access, no admin privelege, etc. No disrespect is intended to anyone.
