When I try to sync my new IPod with my computer to transfer music

When I try to sync my new IPod with my computer to transfer music onto the IPod it goes through as if it is syncing saying determining apps to sync and then nothing happens!!

Please advise what I might not be doing but I did it with my Iphone and my husbands Iphone so I'm not really a novice when it comes to it so I don't know if the IPod is faulty.
