error when trying to use FaceTime

facetime previously worked fine on my daughter's macbook pro with lion, now when opening facetime it asks for the password, flashes verified for a second, then gives this error: 'the server encountered an error processing registration, please try again later". don't even know why it's trying to process registration and if it helps, facetime is working fine on my macbook pro on the same wifi network and it's working fine on her iphone, again on the same network. thanks for any help.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iPhone 4 iOS 6

thanks as always for the help. from the first section of troubleshooting it says

"Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences.

If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on."

but with face time open preferences is greyed out and unselectable, so i can't even proceed from there. i also checked the date and time, it was fine.

thanks will do. hey, i just realized that with those different version numbers...we bought her that macbook pro just over a year ago, maybe that facetime is now out of date? also, if i go to the app store it shows we can buy facetime, whereas on our macbook pro it shows as downloaded in the purchase part. okay, off to work. you da man.
