My IPod touch (4th generation 8G) is stuck in recovery mode. When I try to restore it ITunes says that an error (1604) has occurred. I have tried switching USB ports and using different cables but nothing works!! And sometimes ITunes doesn't even recognise that my IPod is plugged in, I know it is because my computer makes the noise that means something is plugged in!! Please help!!!

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

I've tried all of that but it still won't work!!!
If you download the firmware from another source (just google ipod 4th generation firmware), then from that you hold shift as you click on the restore and from there a window will pop up and you then select the file you downloaded and restore it with that, should work did with me.
So you get the same error when you try on another computer using another network?

I restored it on another computer and that worked, but now when I plug my iPod into my computer it doesn't register that it is plugged in. Even on my iPod it doesn't say that it's plugged in. I thought it was something to do with iTunes so I uninstalled it and downloaded it again, but it still doesn't register. So now I have my iPod but I cannot sync any music to it! Any ideas?
