Finder crashes when opening a window

I've been having a rather peculiar problem when opening a Finder window. Sometimes it occurs right away after startup, other times (like right now) my Mac has been running for a while. Basically what happens is I click a folder or drive on my desktop, or I use Command + N to open a new window, and the icons on my desktop will vanish for a moment, then reappear. Without fail, the only resolution is to restart my MacBook. I just reinstalled Mac OS X Mountain Lion because I put in a new hard drive, so it's just about as virgin as it can get. I still have everything backed up if I need to reinstall again, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

I've run Disk Utility to verify the disk and repair permissions, but it had no effect. I can probably grab Console logs if they would help.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
