iPhone 5 Hotspot connection problems

I just got my iPhone 5 and am trying to connect my macbook pro through the wireless hotspot. When I search the available networks on my macbook with my phone's hotspot turned on, it takes a really long time for the phone to show up as an option to connect to. Seems like sometimes it comes up right away but usually takes 3-4 minutes before it'll show up. Once it show up, I have no problems connecting to it. I can also connect through bluetooth without any problems, it's just the "personal hotspot" that is having problems. Any suggestions?
