Profile Manager cannot enrol any device...

Hi, everyone hope I could find some help. I am having problem with enrollment of my clients to my server.

Below are some of my Server Log error:-

Unable to create ProfileManager log file at '/var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log' (No such file or directory)

www com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.DeviceManagement.php-fpm[65995]): Exited with code: 78

ruby[65926]: Unable to create ProfileManager log file at '/var/log/devicemgr/

(com.apple.DeviceManagement.php-fpm): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

an I have an airport ext problem due to the latest update to server app.

I did try this:-

but it didnt work..

Try

1. $ sudo touch /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log

2. $ sudo chmod 0640 /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log

3. $ sudo chown _devicemgr:admin /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log

Thanks for your reply.

I got the following return after sudo:-

sudo touch /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log

touch: /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log: No such file or directory

sudo chmod 0640 /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log

chmod: /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log: No such file or directory

sudo chown _devicemgr:admin /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log

chown: /var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log: No such file or directory

I tried to create the directory and profilemanager.log with finder under server app and tried again but got the same result.

Hi Justin,

It's really quite challenging helping you in this way! You should have a look at what those commands I gave you actually do via

$ man "command"

$ man touch

$ man chown

$ man chmod

Creating a directory via Finder is going to set it up with the wrong permissions so , was the devicemgr directory not present at all?

If not, then by nuking your devicemgr setup, you might well have deleted important directories.

So first up try

$ ls -aFl /var/log

$ ls -aFl /var/log/devicemgr

And then Post the results

Also

$ man ls

What version of OS X server are you running ? ML or Lion?

Hi Gerry,

Yup, there is no folder name devicemgr undervar\log

www:~ admin$ /var/log

-bash: /var/log: is a directory

www:~ admin$ /var/log/devicemgr

-bash: /var/log/devicemgr: No such file or directory

ok I learn a new command today. man "command"

I am running ML with server app 2.1.1

Justin - don't type the file or directory name by itself from the command line unless you know what it does- that's dangerous......

Again - please post the output of

$ ls -aFl /var/log

Then well go to the next step!

Hi Justin, I went to reply yesterday and the communities have been down for maintenance.

So here's the thing.

As part of Server setup, it runs a bunch of scripts to set up various things like log files, directories, user names etc.

It looks like your Server setup did not complete properly as the symbolic link from /var/log/devicemgr directory to /Library/Log/ProfileManager did not complete.

You have two choices.

1. Run the devicemgr setup script again or

2. Move OS X Server.app to the trash and re-install.

1. Running the setup script will work if the only thing that failed was setting up Profile Manager, but if you are getting funny issues with your server, it might be best to go down the route of reinstalling Server.app

You can find the ProfileManager setup script at :

/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/System/Library/ServerSetup/CommonEx tras/80-devicemgrcommon.sh

I think I would really recommend reinstalling Server.app from scratch though given your level of knowledge.

You can check the install.log in console.app to see whether it reinstalls without errors.

Just sharing what I did to solve the problem with Gerry help.

1. stop all service in sever app and close it.

2.trash server app via finder under application

3.go to app store install server app.

4.Run server app

5.start service one by one keep open directory, mail and profile manager to the last.

6.check all your service. (some might need some mod to get it working again.)

7.follow this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5349

Next week I will deploye 650 iPhone with OSX 10.8 server for MdM.

I have the exactly same pb. My server is connected to an AD, SSL signed by HQ in US. So I am looking for solution to fixe issue with out lost all my OSX sever config.

I get this sceen when I click on enrollement on an iOS devices.

Problem presented after an IP address and host name change. In my case, the devicemgr pointer (or alias) in /var/log to /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Logs is missing altogether and "/logs" is missing altogether.

Which option solved the issue if I may? Thanks.

1. Run the devicemgr setup script again or

2. Move OS X Server.app to the trash and re-install.

I tried everything in this thread (beside a system reinstall, I won't do that because of profile manager). But I still get the "permission denied" error.

02.02.14 16:48:36,869 ProfileManager[1669]: Unable to create ProfileManager log file at '/var/log/devicemgr/profilemanager.log' (Permission denied)

I wiped the database.

I ran the script.

I changed the privileges with chmod and chown

Still: permission denied!

Please help!

Try :

and then rerun the script and advise.
