Photo order within Events broken on iOS devices synchronized with iPhoto

Display of the images on the iOS device is a matter for the iOS device, not iPhoto.

Since updating over the air to iOS 6.0.1, I too noticed all albums & events previously synced from iPhoto are in modified date order instead of creation date order. Syncing again, or restoring doesn't fix this & I have confirmed this issue with other devices running iOS 6.0.1 with their iPhoto libaries.

iOS 6.0.1 has seemed to have brought more issues than fixes, as I have also noticed TV shows are out of order & Wi-Fi drops connection. Hopefuly iOS 6.1 will fix these?

I am having exactly the same problem. My only difference is I'm running Mac OS 10.7.5. His issue affects only photos within events imported to iPhoto since roughly August 2012, and only began with iOS 6.0.1. It does seem to hang on the iOS Photos app now sorting by modification date and iPhoto apparently having begun to change modification date for portrait format images sometime recently. Have you submitted a bug report to Apple?

Same issue. Ever since upgrading to iPhoto on my retina MBP to 9.4.2. Problem seen with BOTH my iPhone 5 on iOS 6.0.1 AND iPhone 4S on 5.1.1, so not an iOS issue. For me, it impacts both albums and events. In fact, sometimes you can't even see the event under iTunes->device->photo tab, until you exit iPhoto & iTunes and restart both with phone plugged in. There is a workaround for the album's mis-order: by manually sorting photos through dragging a photo to a new location within the album and then placing it back. However, this doesn't work for mis-ordered photos under events. Right now, I just have to live with it.... I have even tried removing all photos, deleting iPod photo cache, and starting anew. Even 1 event with 30 photos have the same problem.....

Really annoying as I like to see my event photos sorted by date.

Somehow, such syncing problems always seem to occur EVERYTIME there's an iPhoto upgrade. Are apple's departments so siloed? Do they not work with one another to test a software before releasing it?

Apple, please investigate and fix the issue ASAP!

No point addressing instructions and edicts to Apple from here, they won't see them.

I submitted a bug report to Apple on this (Bug ID 12725987). They just responded that they were unable to reproduce the problem. I find this impossible to believe, as I gave clear and detailed instructions on how to reproduce the problem. I'm running out of ideas. This problem makes the Photos app useless for viewing photos, killing at a stroke at least half the point of having an iPad in the first place.

Just tested this again, and the problem is still reproducible on iOS 6.1, running iPhoto 9.4.2 under Mac OS X 10.7.5, with iTunes 11.0.1. A further observation: after importing the images into an Event in iPhoto, but before syncing to iOS, looking at either horizontal or vertical photo information (CMD-I) in iPhoto shows the creation date and modification date/times to be the same, as they should be. After syncing the iOS device through iTunes, looking at the Event on the iOS device in the Photos App, all the vertically oriented images are seen at the end, following all the horizontally oriented images. At this point, going back to iPhoto on the Mac, and looking at the photos within the Event there, Info (CMD-I) on the vertical images now shows modification date/time to have changed to the date/time of importing into iPhoto. In other words, iPhoto didn't make that change at the time of the original import, but the change was made to the iPhoto library at the time iTunes copied the Event to the iOS device.

I had the same problem, but renaming all files I wanted to sync to my iPad in iPhoto (using a batch job) to date and time taken, then syncing with iPad solved the problem. Seems like the app on iPad sync after modified date or title(?), not date taken anymore.

Forgot to add that after renaming photos in my iPhoto albums, I then sorted them by title, before syncing to iPad.

Just tested this again, after upgrading OS X to 10.8.2, and the problem still exists. However, upon closer examination, I've determined that the change in modification date is done by iPhoto when quitting the application after the initial import. In other words, it happens before the sync with iOS, so iTunes is not involved. You can see it by having a look at Info (CMD-I) for vertical format images after import, when you see it is the same as creation date. Then quit iPhoto and relaunch it, and have another look at Info, where you'll see the modification date of the vertical images has been changed to the import date.

I had the same problem, but the problem is solved, it was definetely iPhoto not iTunes which produced the false sorting order. The latest update of iPhoto a few days ago solved it. Pictures in events are now shown in the same order as in iPhoto again. In my case, the date when the picture was taken.
