In Mozilla & Thunderbird & OE & Co you have an option to limit the number of concurrent connections to an imap server. However I noticed that since the switch to Apple Mail my imap server is heavily loaded - because Mail has open connections to 20+ folders, and doesnt release them over time. Rather, the number grows over time.

Is there an option/dwrite/etc config option to limit Mail to just 1 or 2 concurrent imap connections?

Thank you,

Not that I know of, but in my case Mail never seems to have more than four connections open at a time when it checks for new mail. It doesn't start checking the fifth account until one of first four is done, so I'm not sure I understand what you mean here...

I think I got it solved. I am running OSX in german language, so I can only make an educated guess: in the options for an imap account, there is a 3rd tab called Advanced, where you can activate the account, set the account folder path and imap prefix path etc. Below is an option with a warning "Contact your Sysadmin..." and below there is a checkmark to automatically synchronise changed mailboxes. I unchecked this option and applied the changes and restarted Mail and now I also have a max of 5 concurrent IMAP connection, with 4 being the usual number.
