Pages, iPad

I haven't seen much discussion about the problem I recently encountered, so perhaps it is unique to my system - though that seems doubtful. My Pages app for the iPad 3 (Pages 1.6.2) no longer loads up completely. It opens without presenting any interface options - no documents, etc. it stays in this suspended state for about 5 seconds and then crashes. I've probably lost whatever documents I originally had. "Re-launching" the app does not help. "Re-booting" the device does not help. I've deleted the app from the device via iTunes and re-loaded it. Does not help. I'd really like to avoid re-setting my entire system obviously, since I would lose gigs of data for ongoing projects. Any advice?
