Configurator 1.2.1 - Unable to Update iOS - iPad goes into recovery mode

I have tried on three different new out of the box iPads. When I plug them in and click Prepare, it says "waiting iOS" and "installing iOS" and then it goes into recovery mode and iTunes opens up and says it needs to be plugged in and the configurator says "unable to update iOS". I even tried activating the ipad before I plugged it into the configurator and it still did the same thing. Thanks for any help!

I am getting the error message "Unable to update ios" when try to update to 6.0.1 I am not able to use the devices or go back to a previous version. Help!

One thing I found - be sure that your internet filter is not blocking the configurator from connecting to the apple store. It has to go to verify the ios. For me I ended up taking it off the wired internet and authenticating as myself (administrator) on the wifi and that did the trick.
