To determine how much memory is installed: > About this Mac
OS X uses what it needs. If it's 4 or 5 GB that's all it needs. When it needs more it will use it. When it is no longer needed it will release it. That's all there is to it.
just out of curiosity, why are you wanting to use more of your available RAM?
is the machine stalling or something?
how did you check how much RAM is being used, with Activity Monitor?
yes with activity monitor
i want to increase the number because when i use the photoshop it's like i can't even click between the toolbox !
and now i'm doing (erase free files) by the disk utility and there is 10gb free of ram

RAM ≠ disk space.
If you only have 10 GB free disk space that is getting a bit low.
wow! really? that ***...
so you get the spinning lollipop thing all the time / the beachball wheel of death or whatever?
have you been watching the CPU stats in activity monitor too?
hmmm .. i wish i could help...it sounds frustrating!
i don't know what those ads are about macs running slow but apparently there are some preference files that can be changed to optimise the machine for different purposes. my friend mentioned the other day - i will see if i can find out anything specific.
good luck in the meantime!
ah, just checked with my friend...
he simply suggested googling 'optimise imac' because it brings up loads of advice on what can be switched off etc to lighten the load on the machine...and ultimately speed it up.
sorry that's not terribly specific but he said it worked well for him.
Please do not succumb to marketing scams selling products promising to mysteriously "optimise" your Mac. They are all snake oil 100% certain to ruin your day. Same holds true for all "clean up", "speed up" or similar utilities whether they are free or not.
We need more specific information from Rabea before any solution can be proposed.
so what i can do =))
If I may ask, in what way are you having 14 GB of RAM in an iMac?
Besides that, why would you want to use ALL of your RAM? It's absolutely not good to use all your RAM at the same time, this because memory swapping that will occur, that will decrease your overall performance drastically.
To see your RAM usage take a look at the Activity Monitor.

in that way i have 14gb in the picture
but i want my imac to do the erasing faster! i want it to use the all rams to make it faster !
Ah, ok. thats clear, thanks.
About your RAM, it's not 1:1 -> 'Increasing my RAM will increase my iMac's speed'. Like you said, you still have 10 GB free RAM, therefor it's safe to conclude that your RAM is NOT the bottleneck. Your Mac is simply as fast as it's slowest parts. If you are using a traditional 5.400 RPM Harddisk you are limited to a writespeed of maximum 40MB/PS. Now if we assume that you can erase files with a maximum of ~70MB/PS, this speed WILL bottelneck you.
Simply having a few programs running and deleting files will not be bottlenecked by your CPU or RAM, but simply by your Harddrive's maximum speed. If you want to increase this speed you should invest in an SSD instead of more RAM.

ahaaa okey i understand thank you very much
The hard drives in the newer iMacs are 7200 rpm unless I've missed something...
For the OP:
how much empty space do you have on your hard drive? What is the total capacity vs. the available space.
I have a mid 2011 iMac and the HD is very fast. I would imagin the newer iMac HD are fast too.
So is mine (a mid 2010) - I don't know where the other poster got the information that iMacs have 5400 rpm drives which are only in laptops and Minis as far as I know; instead, I'm wondering if the OP doesn't have enough free space on his HD.
how can i use all my rams ?
