Why is Apple Maps so slow to lad map tiles in iOS 6?

Since upgrading to iOS 6, my iPad 3 is unable to lad Apple Maps in under 10 minutes. Google Maps, Bing, OpenStreet Maps, etc. all load quickly, and Apple Maps works on my iPad 2 on iOS 6, but the iPad 3 takes several minutes per screen to load the maps. My internet connection is sustained 17Mbps and has no issues, except with Apple Maps on this iPad 3 device. I have tried killing the Maps app, rebooting the iPad 3, upgraded to iOS 6.01, and yet it *****. (beyond no StreetView, no biking directions, no transit, failed search results, etc.)

Any suggestions?

I don't even have a SIM card inserted into the device, so I don't see how that could impact it. All other download services are working fine, with consistently about 15-20Mbps download speeds on Comcast. It is only Apple Maps that seems to have an issue. Trying TopoMaps, e.g., the map loaded instantly on places I have never searched before (ergo, map tiles were not cached).

Your ping time is really slow, especially for a cable connection... that might be part of the problem. Although since yours is not really downloading at all try...

Power cycling your router.

Shutting down the app...

- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List

- Tap and hold any icon until they wiggle

- Press the red ➖ to delete the Maps app from this list.

- Press the home button twice when done.

- Restart the Maps app

Thanks PaulCB. Strange that Apple Maps on only this device would have been so disproportionately affected by the router, but switching to my neighbor's slow WiFi brought up the map tiles in no time. I had rebooted the Maps app and even the device numerous times, as stated in my first post - even upgraded the iOS version. Anyhow, thanks again!

You're welcome. Glad it's working.

Did power cycling your router allow you to DL Maps when connected to your router? If still a problem with your router and the power cycle doesn't work, try updating the firmware or completely resetting it from the router's firmware control panel or a hardware reset button, maybe on the back of the router.
